JIS S 1037:2013 Testing Method and Requirements

Standard Heating Test

1. Place newspapers and creased newspapers inside the safe; with newspapers taped on the inside walls and door back. Close the safe normally.

2. Heat the safe inside the furnace. Heat the subject according to JIS guidelines and standard. Maintain the temperature curve while measuring the internal heat

3. After a specified period, stop the test and let the subject cool down organically inside the furnace.

4. Open the safe and check the inside. Newspaper must not have any kind of physical damage.

Performance of safes

  • Temperature limit inside must be less than 177 C
  • Newspapers must not suffer from serious deterioration

Combined Explosion and Hazard-impact Test

1. Place newspapers and creased newspapers inside the safe; with newspapers taped on the inside walls and door back. Close the safe normally.

2. Heat the safe inside the furnace. Heat the subject according to JIS guidelines and standard. Maintain the temperature curve while measuring the internal heat

3. After a specified period, stop the test and drop it from either

  1. 9.1m height onto pile of bricks
  2. 4.0 m height onto galvanized concrete floor

4. Place the safe upside-down, and heat again for a specific period.

5. After a specified period, stop the test and let the subject cool down organically inside the furnace.

6. Open the safe and check the inside. Newspaper must not have any kind of physical damage.

Performance of safes

  • No cracks on the subject
  • Subject remains locked
  • Newspapers must not suffer from serious deterioration
